Steve Beresford and John Butcher first played together in 1992 and they have been an active free improvising duo for over twenty years now. It is not uncommon for them to extend their duo in several occasions, in order to include other improvising musicians, such as Paul Lovens, Okkyung Lee, Christian Marclay, William Connor.

Edwin Pouncey writes about the duo's performance in their album I Shall Become a Bat:
"Butcher's raucous saxophone blasts are the perfect foil for Beresford's more aggressive electronics, which initially sound off like a broken fire alarm before easing into a more Ambient flow. Meanwhile Butcher continues to bombard with a series of inventive and brilliantly timed horn intrusions that bang and buzz like a trapped hornet against the fluid frame of noise loosely assembled by Beresford."

Steve Beresford is an extremely versatile musician. He is a multi-instrumentalist and a composer whose work varies from free improvisation, to writing music for film and television, from performing in popular music bands to lecturing at the University of Westminster.
He has an all-inclusive attitude towards improvisation, which he sees as a very fertile field to ignore conventinal rules and develop your very own style. He has been very actively involved in the free improvisation scene since his university years, both as an improviser and as a promoter.
