John Butcher Group was formed in 2008 for performing at the Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival of the same year. Most of the members consist long time collaborators of John Butcher. The piece that was commissioned to be performed at the festival (somethingtobesaid) was also played in Berlin's MaerzMusik Festival in 2010.
Julian Cowley writes about the group's performance in somethingtobesaid:
"Wired and unplugged sound sources find common ground, but it's not a matter of mimicry or camouflage. Rather it's a means of focussing and concentrating the flow of energy from technique, and the outcome is singular and often strangely beautiful music."

dieb13 is the stage name of avant-garde musician Dieter Kovacic. He has a DJ background and works with turntables and computers. As an improvisor, he is involved in the free and electroacoustic improvisation domain.
