Eddie Prevost - John Butcher

Eddie Prevost - tam-tam and percussion
John Butcher - saxophones

Eddie Prevost and John Butcher first performed together with Derek Bailey in 1990. 15 years later they met again on stage just the two of them and since then they have improvised together several times in duo or in trio with John Tilbury or Guillaume Viltard.

Bill Meyer writes about the duo's performance in their album Interworks (released by Matchless Recordings):
"The recording by engineer Steve Lowe renders the protesting metallic wail of Prévost's tam-tam and Butcher's disparate whispers, squelches, and immaculately joined multiphonic excursions as vivid as sunlight in the tropics."

Eddie Prevost is a percussionist and one of the co-founders of the improvisational ensemble AMM. He was largely influenced by jazz drummers Max Roach and Ed Blackwell while early enough in his career he turned to free improvisation. His sonic explorations have led him to perform with a variety of percussion instruments in various combinations.
